SITUATION: Georgia businesses, communities, entrepreneurs, universities, startups and more have taken the Peach State to the next level in terms of innovation. The Georgia Centers of Innovation (COI), a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, have been a huge part of this success by helping these entities connect, compete and grow. Georgia’s five individual centers serve as the state’s resource for facilitating business innovation and operate statewide with a focus on Aerospace, Energy Technology, Information Technology, Logistics, and Manufacturing. As the agency of record for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Pineapple Public Relations was tasked with generating awareness of the Centers of Innovation with local, regional, national media including trade publications to generate interest in the benefits of doing business in Georgia.

SOLUTION: Pineapple Public Relations is no stranger to innovation, so we were excited to hit the ground running with this project. To get COI’s story directly in front of the media, the team arranged a series of one-on-one deskside meetings with contacts at local newspapers and business radio stations. The media markets the team targeted aligned with COI Executive Director Steve Justice’s statewide roadshow of speaking opportunities, where we presented tailored story ideas that coincided with the five centers. The team also arranged thought leadership stories and placements in trade publications for each of the COI directors to showcase the innovative work done by each center. These project facets combined with traditional media pitching led to one of our most successful economic development projects to date.
